We are celebrating! A year ago today we drove to Christchurch and literally bought everything in the bead store – yes, we bought the entire store and Affordable Jewellery Supplies was born (or reborn). If you don’t know the story, you can read about that here.
As part of the celebration we are giving away a kit to make these earrings. Watch to the end of the video to find out how you can win it.
These teardrop hoops are a continuation of my five minute earring series. Not only are they able to made in five minutes, they also only have 10 steps – you could literally make these to go with your outfit before you leave the house – that’s how quick they are.
Materials
Here’s what you will need to make these earrings:
- 9x6mm Mother of Pearl Teardrops x2
- 11/0 White Ceylon Seed Beads x28 (approximately)
- 19mm Silver Twist Earhooks x2
- 6mm Silver Jump Rings x2
- 4mm Silver Jump Rings x2
- 26cm 20 gauge Silver Half Hard Wire (cut into two 13cm pieces)
Tools
- Chain nose pliers (2 pairs works best)
- Flush cutters
- Round nose pliers
- Mandrel (I used a small bottle with the circumference of approximately 11cm)
Instructions
Watch the video or read the instructions below.
Step 1
Make a loop in one end of the wire. If you haven’t made a loop before watch this video.
Step 2
Thread on the beads in the following order:
- 7 Seed Beads
- 1 Teardrop
- 7 Seed Beads
Step 3
Place the beads in the centre of the wire and wrap the wire around your mandrel (bottle). Cross the ends over. Manipulate the wire until it forms the shape you desire.
Step 4
Make a loop in the other end of the wire.
Step 5
Using both pairs of chain nose pliers (or one pair and your fingers, whichever works for you) twist each loop so that it faces towards the back.
Step 6
Hold the loop in your chain nose pliers and bend the wire at the bottom of the loop to a slight angle.
Step 7
Hold both loops in the chain nose pliers and manipulate the wire into the correct shape.
Step 8
Using both pairs of chain nose pliers, open the 4mm jump ring. If you haven’t used jump rings before, please watch this video.
Feed on both of the loops at the top of the teardrop and close the loop.
Step 9
Using both pairs of chain nose pliers, open the 6mm jump ring. Feed on the 4mm jump ring you just added and the ear wire. Close the jump ring.
Step 10
Repeat for the other earring.
