Do you have a necklace that’s slightly too short? Today I’m going to show you how to quickly add an extender chain so that you can adjust the size.
This is a super quick and easy project and one that you don’t really need any special knowledge for.
You can also use this technique to extend a bracelet.
Materials
Here’s what you will need.
- Necklace or bracelet

Tools
Instructions
Watch the video or read the instructions below.
Step 1 – Cut the Chain
If your chain is longer than 5cm, cut it to size using the flush cutters. Remember to hold the chain on both sides of the flush cutters while you cut so the pieces don’t fly away.
Step 2 – Attach the Chain to the Necklace
Open the 6mm jump ring using both pairs of chain nose pliers. If you haven’t used jump rings before, watch this video.
Thread on one end of the chain and the jump ring of the existing necklace. Close the jump ring.
Step 3 – Add the Dangle
This is purely aesthetic but it does make your finished piece look more professional. Open the 4mm jump ring and place the other end of the chain and the dangle onto the jump ring. Close the jump ring.
Now you have added an extender to your chain so that the necklace will fit, or it can be adjustable to wear with different necklines.
