Heart Tassel Earrings - Affordable Jewellery Supplies

Heart Tassel Earrings

The most romantic day of the year is upon us.  Valentine’s Day.

Hearts, flowers, everything pink and red – what’s not to love.

These heart tassel earrings would be just the thing to wear out with that special someone on Valentine’s Day.

This project is not suitable for beginner jewellery makers.

Materials

Here’s what you’ll need to make them:

Tools

  • Ruler
  • Chain nose pliers
  • Flush cutters
  • Round nose pliers
  • Scissors
  • Beading needle
  • Darning needle that fits through the rondelle easily.

Instructions

Watch the video or read the instructions below.

Make the Tassel

Separate the embroidery thread so that you have one strand.

Thread the beading needle with the embroidery thread. Pick up enough seed beads to measure 6cm making sure that they don’t fall off the other end of the thread. Move the beads to the centre of the thread.

Skipping the bead that the needle thread is coming out of, thread the needle back up through all of the seed beads.

Pull tight so that there is no thread showing between the beads. Tie a double knot to secure the beads.

Repeat this process until you have three strands of beads.

Take the needle off and thread onto the other piece of thread.

Add the seed beads and thread back up through the beads as you did for the other three strands of beads.

Tie off the ends.

Take another piece of thread and repeat the process so that you have two tassels, each with 4 strands of beads.

Tie both tassels together ensuring it’s very secure.

Cut the wire in half and place the tied part of the tassel across the centre of one piece, making sure that the beads are not in the way. Bring the ends of the wire up and twist to make a loop.

Thread the darning needle with the thread from the top of the tassels. Move the needle right down close to the top of the tassel.

Feed the darning needle, along with the wire, through the first Rondelle. Make sure the bead sits down over the twisted wire, right close to the tassel.

Place some glue on the thread at the top of the bead. Tie a knot in the thread close to the tassel, ensuring that the bead still covers the twisted wire at the bottom.

Thread the wire and threaded needle through the second Rondelle.

Trim off the thread as close as you can to the top bead.

Trim one of the wires to about 1.5cm – you want the end of the wire to be hidden inside the heart bead.

Place the heart bead onto the wire, ensuring that the shorter piece of wire is hidden within the bead.

Make a wire wrapped loop at the top of the bead. If you don’t know how to do this watch my How to Make a Wire Wrapped Loop video.

Open the loop on the ear hook and attach the earring component. Close the loop.

Repeat for the other earring.

While these earrings are a little challenging to get the tassel attached, it's well worth it. They are quite heavy but sit nicely when you are wearing them.

I hope this post gave you inspiration to make these earrings
